In November 2011 we held a ‘What we buy, how we buy’ event in Stratford, London. All about advertising, this event was aimed at companies within local ethnic communities to show how they’ve been buying and what they’ve been buying. We gave an insight into the types of information required, and selection procedures used as well as share information about our new media directory and commercial media training courses.

Speakers on the night included our MD Mavis Amankwah, Ope Bankole (Sales, Marketing and Publishing expert), Vik Nigah (Marketing and Account Management), Nini Olorunoje (Rich Visions Account Exec) and James Willsher (former journalist turned Communications Manager for Hackney Council).

Since the launch of our media and buying service in May 2010, we have bought over £1m worth of diverse and ethnic media advertising for our clients. Mavis puts our ongoing success down to “looking at each project uniquely so we can thoroughly plan and execute tailored marketing, PR and media campaigns that work best for the cause, charity or brand”.

Following the popularity of our ‘How to Reach and Engage with Hard-to-Reach Audiences’ seminars last year (which attracted delegates such as Comic Relief, Moneygram, Planning Aid for London and Metropolitan Police) we will soon be announcing our next seminar at the CIPR Centre, Russell Square, London.

The demographic of the UK is rapidly changing, making marketing and communications important for commercial entities to embed diversity communications into their core functions to boost profitability as well as popularity. In 2010, 1 in 4 births in the UK were to women from diverse backgrounds, this figure is set to grow. The 2011 census will reveal statistics that should question a recent report stating that 20%of the UKs population will be from an ethnic background by 2051.

The implications to marketers, advertisers, media agencies and those working specifically on consumer brands has never been clearer. Diverse and hard to reach communities are no longer a niche or add on for marketing and communications campaigns or projects but a necessity for business growth/ROI. Marketers must ensure their brands and products appeal to this broad, fast growing and diverse audience

This seminar will reveal the secrets to reaching, engaging and sustaining relationships with diverse and hard to reach audiences.

Topics include:

- Value of the Grey, Pink and Brown pound
- The Secrets to winning advertising
- Choosing the best research methodologies
- Developing an effective communications plan
- Increase presence online
- Conducting effective research
- Simplifying key messages
- Strategies for community engagement and local outreach
- Cross communication, including translation
- Engaging with community, faith and voluntary organisations
- Working with local and niche media
- Key and special events
- Building sustainable relationships
- The cost of getting it wrong – dos and don’ts
- Case studies
