AMREF – World AIDS Day Unity Event

The African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF) is an international not-for-profit organisation run for Africans by Africans. They raise the profile of Africa’s health challenges through campaigning, advocacy and communications work. AMREF have developed community-based health care models and programmes with African communities seeking solutions to Africa’s priority public health challenges, such as maternal and reproductive health and rights, child health, safe water, malaria, TB and HIV and AIDS.

BRIEF - Rich Visions assisted AMREF UK in raising their public awareness, on the work they conduct in Africa. This was to be done by holding a unity event at their London offices to commemorate World AIDS Day. The first objective was to achieve twenty five attendees at the unity event. These were to include individuals from relevant embassies, small and medium enterprises and organisations from the African Diaspora. The second objective was to secure ten pieces (pre and post event) of media coverage.

ACTIVITY - The unity event was held at their London offices and was an emotional evening that involved speeches from various AMREF workers and the heart warming story from Dr Kaleeba and her personal story about AIDS. Following the speeches there was a warm reception where the diaspora had an opportunity to network and join AMREF in the work towards a healthier Africa.

RESULTS - We secured twelve pieces of coverage: 2 x print, 1 x glossy, 2 x television, 1 x radio and 6 x online. The event was attended by many, including leading members of the diaspora, the co founder of Trumpet newspaper and Eastenders actress Ellen Thomas.
